Celebrate Shark Week with the St. Louis Zoo

ST. LOUIS (KNOU) -- The St. Louis Zoo is making a splash for Shark week with a variety of activities suitable for the whole family!

The week kicks off with Shark Awareness Day on Sunday, July 14th where you can enjoy a special interactive activity and learn about ways you can help sharks.

On both Friday and Saturday, July 19 & 20 from 12 to 3 p.m. there will be a live steel drum performance where you can listen to the ethereal blend of calypso, reggae, bossa, Soca and live Caribbean music by Mango Jay. Kids can join in shark-themed games and activities while Swedish Fish Brand Ambassadors will be on-site handing out candy while supplies last.

A free "Jungle Boogie" concert featuring Zydeco Crawdaddys will be held at Schnuck Family Plaza from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19th.

In addition to all of these fun activities, visitors who dress up as a shark anytime during the week will also get into the Stingrays at Caribbean Cove exhibit for free. Visitors over the age of 13 must comply with the Zoo’s adult costume policy as posted on the Zoo’s website.

The featured food item during Shark Week is the “Shark Bite” – a sweet treat with Dole Whip made with Swedish Fish candy which can be ordered at Ray’s Snack Shack
