BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KNOU)- As Halloween approaches, more people are craving their fair share of candy corn.

However, not many know that this iconic, controversial candy originated in Belleville, Illinois.

Now known as Jelly Belly Candy Co., the second generation of the Goelitz family specialized in the mass production of candy corn in the late 1800's as it originated from their recipe for "royal buttercreams."
