Netflix Announces 'Making a Murderer' Part 2 Coming Next Month

September 25, 2018

Netflix has announced a new season of "Making a Murderer" that will premiere on October 19.

The new 10-episode series is being called "Part 2" and will continue to follow the legal battles of alleged murderer Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey. The Wisconsin residents are currently serving life sentences for the murder of 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbech.

But this season, "Making a Murder" creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos have a new character to introduce who has "unexpected evidence about what may have happened to Teresa Halbech and how and why the jury convicted Steven of her murder." Kathleen Zellner is a post-conviction lawyer who specializes in wrongful convictions and she will be fighting to prove Avery's innocence and win his freedom.

Ricciardi and Demos released a statement, "Steven and Brendan, their families and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice.

"Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers."
