The petition gained support from thousands Monday

(KNOU) — Thousands of people have signed an online petition Monday to have podcast host and cultural commentator Joe Rogan moderate a 2020 presidential debate.

The petition, "Get Joe Rogan to Moderate the 2020 Presidential Debate," was created about three months ago, however, it gained more than 7,000 signatures just Monday.

The petition asserts that Rogan should moderate a debate because he is known for interviewing people from various walks of life including politicians and political commentators across the spectrum — Andrew Yang (D), Tulsi Gabbard (D), Kyle Kulinski (D), Gary Johnson (L), Bernie Sanders (I), Benjamin Shapiro (R), and Candace Owens (R).

Comments from those who signed the petition cite various reasons for doing so.

"Joe's intelligence and long-form discussion style make him a perfect fit for asking tough questions that have relevance to the American people," one commenter wrote.

Another user said, "Networks hosting debates need a neutral party (not paid to ask certain questions/give certain candidates more time) to mediate the event. Joe Rogan is that person."
