Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry delivered a funny moment during the 2019 Oscars on Sunday night, while presenting the award for Best Costume Design. McCarthy poked fun at the fashion featured in The Favourite and Mary Queen of Scots, taking the stage wearing a short red wig and an elaborate gown adorned by several rabbit stuffed animals. “These artists create a prestige of textiles with authenticity yet never distract from the story,” she deadpanned while stroking her bunny rabbit hand puppet. “Costume designers construct the looks around a character to a particular time and place in the subtlest, subtlest of ways.” “So true,” Henry agreed, while dressed in his own Victorian gown in the style of Mary Poppins. McCarthy initially struggled to open the envelope, but ultimately announced Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter as the winner.
