Taiwan legalizes gay marriage

It's a win for LGBTQ people in Taiwan today!

It is the first country in Asia to legalize gay marriage.

TAIWAN (KNOU) — Taiwan has made history by passing a bill that makes them the first Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage.

The law easily passed and will allow same-sex couples to form what it calls exclusive permanent unions, and to apply to government agencies for a marriage registration.

Today's vote comes after Taiwan's top court ruled that not allowing same-sex couples to marry violates the island's constitution.
